Steven Baker

Stephen Baker has kept diaries for over 50 years during which time he has kept records of his extensive travels and major events in his life. This has been of great assistance in developing his skills as a novelist specialising in historical fiction.

In the 1950s Stevens parents immigrated as ‘Ten Pound Poms’ to Melbourne, Australia, where he was born and lived there until he was nearly five. Stephen was raised in West Ealing and Ruislip. He was educated at Vincent secondary school in North Holt.

His first occupation was as a draughtsman for the GPO. Then on returning to Australia, he worked at the ABC Television Studios in Sydney for many years.

Upon resuming his life in England some 20 years later, Stephen pursued a career in HR, until being struck down by cancer and heart surgery. This led to him taking up a new direction as a full-time writer. Stephen’s interests are a passionate love of animals and the English countryside, films, history, and a love of travel, which has taken him to all four corners of the world. His favourite authors are Neville Shute, Robert Louis Stevenson, HG Wells and Jules Vern.

Stephen lives in Storrington, West Sussex, close to the rolling lush green of the South Downs. He is single but his garden regularly plays host to local members of the animal kingdom such as visiting cats, hedgehogs, squirrels, the occasional badger, the fox and birds of every description.
