Recollections of a Sussex Parson

First published 1912. Edward Boys Ellman was born in 1815 and was rector of Berwick, East Sussex, for sixty years. A keen observer of life and people, this is a fascinating portrait of life in a small village in the 19th century. Among other humourous incidents is the installation of the barrel organ in the church - that insisted on playing secular tunes, and the lady in Lewes, who asked the shopkeeper to trim a yard off the bottom of a dress while she saved up for it!
